Getting a Visa for Australia
US Citizens will need a VISA or ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) to enter Australia. Do it now, so you don't forget!
The ETA costs $20 AUS, and is done via an app on your smart phone.
-
Download the app "Australian ETA", have your valid US passport and a credit card (or ApplePay) available
-
Open the app and follow the prompts. Tips/hints below:
-
When asked for the country of passport, type in "United" so you don't have to scroll, scroll, scroll.
-
Open your passport to the photo page - flat and photograph it within the ap
-
When asked to capture the code on the page facing the photo page, put the phone on that page & slowly move it around because the human eye can't see the code!
-
You will have to take a selfie, centering your face in an oval with eyes wide open, while reading directions above the oval on how to position your face.
-
You will be asked for your email address and then you'll get a 6-digit code sent to your email to confirm it.
-
You will be asked for your current location, should be "United States" and you should "allow once" when asked to allow Location tracking.
-
When asked for the address where you will be staying in Australia, we clicked "Don't know the address" and entered "multiple locations" in the "Reason" section.
-
-
We got our confirmation email within a few minutes!
